• Councilmember Zimmerman introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: <br />• <br />RESOLUTION #00 -02 -050 <br />RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING APRIL 29, 2000 AS "ARBOR DAY" AND THE <br />MONTH OF MAY 2000 AS "ARBOR MONTH" <br />WHEREAS, trees are an increasingly vital resource in Minnesota today, enriching our <br />lives by purifying air and water, helping conserve soil and providing local energy, creating jobs <br />through a large forest products industry, serving as beautiful recreational settings, providing <br />habitat for wildlife of all kinds, making our cities more livable and are related to all aspects of a <br />diverse, healthy, sustainable ecosystem; and <br />WHEREAS, human activities such as construction damage and pollution, as well as <br />disease and insects, threaten our trees creating the need for concerted action by locally planting, <br />nurturing and protecting trees for benefit of citizenry, economy and ecology; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Ramsey for the 25"' year again sponsors a tree and plant sale by <br />its green businesses for its residents and in partnership with Ramsey Elementary School an <br />Environmental Fair and is recognized for a tenth year as a Tree City, USA; and <br />WHEREAS, Oaks are the most enduring and valued trees in our landscape, we are urged <br />to plant and preserve their prominence for inhabitants of the new millennium. <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />RAMSEY, ANOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, as follows: <br />1) That the Ramsey City Council hereby proclaims April 29, 2000 as "Arbor Day" . <br />2) That the Ramsey City Council hereby proclaims the month of May as "Arbor Month" . <br />3) That the Ramsey City Council urges all citizens to plant trees as part of Ramsey's living <br />history, to participate in tree planting programs that will ensure a green Ramsey in <br />decades to come, and to plant, nurture, protect, and steward the use of our native plant <br />resources. <br />4) That the Ramsey City Council urges participation in Ramsey's Tree Sale and <br />Environmental Fair , Recycling Day, and the Pet Vaccination Clinic on Saturday, April, <br />29, 2000. <br />5) That the City of Ramsey and the neighboring communities of Elk River (Sherburne <br />County Tree Board), and Dayton (Hennepin County), the Minnesota Historical Society, <br />Minnesota Extension Service, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and Citizens <br />combine for a family Arbor Day, "Planting Living History," on Sunday, April 30, 2000, <br />
