CC Regular Session <br />Meeting Date: 04/28/2020 <br />By: Katie Schmidt, Administrative Services <br />Information <br />Title: <br />Adopt Resolution #20-078 Re -appointing Board and Commission Members <br />Purpose/Background: <br />The purpose of this case is to re -appoint members to the City's Boards and Commissions. <br />5. 7. <br />The City Council is directly responsible for appointing board and commission members to the Environmental <br />Policy Board (EPB), the Park and Recreation Commission and the Planning Commission, as well as ratifying the <br />Mayor's appointment to the Economic Development Authority (EDA) as per Minnesota Statute 469.095. <br />Board or commission members with terms set to expire on March 31, 2020, were contacted and asked if they <br />desired reappointment or not. If yes, each member submitted a letter of interest and the Chair, Vice -chair or senior <br />member of the respective commission was invited to submit their recommendations. <br />The City Council reviewed the incumbents' materials and it was the consensus of the City Council to re -appoint the <br />following incumbent members to new terms beginning April 1, 2020. <br />• Michael Valentine to the Environmental Policy Board for a 4-year full term <br />• Michael Hiatt to the Environmental Policy Board for a 4-year full term <br />• Bruce Anderson to the Planning Commission for a 4-year full term <br />Per Minnesota Statue 469.095, pertaining to the Mayor's authority to appoint members to the Economic <br />Development Authority (EDA), Mayor LeTourneau indicated that he will select Mr. Richard (Scott) Cords to be <br />re -appointed to the EDA; and by consensus, the City Council indicated approval with the Mayor's selection. <br />• Richard (Scott) Cords to the Economic Development Authority for a 6-year full term <br />With these appointments there are still remaining vacancies on the City's boards and commissions. Due to the <br />COVID-19 situation, remote interviews are scheduled for May 5, 2020 beginning at 5:30 p.m. <br />Funding Source: <br />Funding for the City's boards and commissions is included in the 2020 General Fund Budget; therefore, there are no <br />additional budgetary implications associated with making the recommended re -appointments. <br />Recommendation: <br />To re -appoint the following members, effective April 1, 2020: <br />1) to the Economic Development Authority, Mr. Richard (Scott) Cords to a term ending March 31, 2026; and <br />2) to the Environmental Policy Board, Mr. Michael Valentine to a term ending March 31, 2024; and <br />3) to the Environmental Policy Board, Mr. Michael Hiatt to a term ending March 31, 2024; and <br />4) to the Planning Commission, Mr. Bruce Anderson to a term ending March 31, 2024. <br />Action: <br />
