.5

2002 CAPITAL EQUIPMENT SCHEDULE
By: Diana Lund, Finance Officer

Background:

At the Board of Adjustment meeting on May 1, 2001, the variance of Amcor was denied
due to the lack of adequate service that could be provided by public safety. Three years
prior, The Savannah Oaks Senior Center was given a variance, With the assurance that an
aerial truck would be purchased in the near future.

A 35-foot height restriction was established because of the limitations current public
safety equipment encounters. To combat this restriction, an aerial fire truck is needed
which would allow reaches of up to 100 feet. This also would allow a safer work
environment for the City's public safety employees.

Without the service of an aerial truck, the City cannot meet the safety requirements of
some businesses that desire to build within the City limits.

Staff Recommendation:

Discussion of possible financing sources for the purchase of an aerial ladder truck.

Council Action:

Based upon recommendations by the Finance Committee and discussion of the City
Council.
