CITY HALL · 2015 FIRSTAVE. NO. · ANOKA, MINNESOTA 55303-2270

Phone (763) 576-2700 · Fax (763) 576-2727 · TTY (763) 422-0442 · www. ci.anoka.mn.us

October 31, 2001

City of Ramsey
15153 Nowthen Blvd. NW
Ramsey, MN 55303

Dear Mayor, Council, and Parks and Recreation Commission:

Last year you provided your residents the opportunity to enjoy a significant savings by making them eligible for
resident status at the Anoka Aquatic Center via a one-year agreement. This Agreement has saved your residents a
great deal of money and gave them a fun, safe experience. This year Ramsey residents purchased 410 season passes
with an $8.00 savings on each one for a total savings of $3,280. In addition to season passes there were 217 youths
that took swimming lesson at a saving of $8.00 per student for a total of $1,744.00. With the average season pass
being used 10.5 times and the swimming lesson students coming 8 times each, the total number of visits exceeds
6000. "Residents" also enjoy first choice when it comes time to register for swimn~ing lessons. They may also
activate their season passes for the pool one month before non-residents get to queue up.

As a quick review, your intent for the 2001 season was to try a one-year agreement with the City of Anoka and re-
evaluate the issue for 2002. At this time the City of Anoka Park and Recreation Advisory Board is requesting your
consideration to enter into a new joint agreement between our cities in order to provide Ramsey residents access to a
top quality aquatic facility at lower rates. Over the past four years, per agreement, you have contributed $4,000 a
year to the Anoka Aquatic Center in order that your residents might enjoy resident rates for season passes and
swirmning lessons.

Since we are beginning the 2002 planning stages for the Anoka Aquatic Center, we extend the offer of a three-year
agreement at a cost of $4,000 per year paid to the City of Anoka, which will result in Ramsey residents receiving
resident status for season passes and swim lessons. It is imperative that we hear from you no later than
FEBRUARY 1, 2002, regarding your decision to allow us ample time for planning and advertising purposes. We
are certainly willing to attend your meetings to answer any questions you may have. If I can be of any assistance,
please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,

Kevin Symens
Anoka Aquatic Center Manager
City of Anoka

Cc:

James Norman, Ramsey City Administrator
Diana Lund, Ramsey Finance Director
Mark Boos, Ramsey Parks/Utilities Supervisor

C:\pool\Ramseyltr2002

-- AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER --
