CC Regular Session 5. 13. <br />Meeting Date: 05/26/2020 <br />By: Colleen Lasher, Administrative <br />Services <br />Information <br />Title: <br />Adopt Resolution #20-112 Hiring an Engineering Intern <br />Purpose/Background: <br />The purpose of this case is to request authorization to hire one Engineering Intern. Annually the City employs <br />interns to work in Administrative Services, Community Development, and Engineering. <br />Engineering Interns provide assistance to Engineering staff for summer construction projects and other duties. <br />Interns will facilitate and/or coordinate multiple ongoing engineering functions and projects within the Engineering <br />Department including outside tasks such as construction observation of streets and underground utilities as well as <br />survey and top soil inspections. Inside tasks include recordkeeping, scanning and potentially working with AutoCad <br />and GIS. <br />Engineering Interns are temporary internship working 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday / 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., <br />beginning in late April to early June and running through approximately mid -September, depending on availability <br />and workload. <br />The process to fill these positions includes an open competitive recruitment, interviews, background checks, <br />pre -employment testing, City Council approval to hire and on -boarding. The Engineering Department requires two <br />engineering interns per season. The first engineering intern was hired at the last meeting. At this time, staff selected <br />the last Engineering Intern. The candidate has passed the pre -employment screenings and staff recommends hiring <br />the candidate listed below. <br />Notification: <br />Intern pay: The intern pay scale ranges from $12.00 per hour to $14.00 per hour, depending on qualifications. <br />Funding Source: <br />The funding required to fill this position is included within the approved 2020 budget. <br />Recommendation: <br />Staff recommends hiring Sarah Betker, effective on or near June 1, 2020 at $13.50 per hour. <br />Action: <br />Motion to adopt resolution #20-112 to hire the following employee on or near the dates listed below: <br />Engineering Intern: Sarah Betker, effective on or near June, 1, 2020 at $13.50 per hour. <br />Attachments <br />Job Desc. <br />Resolution 20-112 <br />Form Review <br />
