Counci hnember Cook stated there should be no signs allowed in the sight triangle. <br /> <br />Councihnember Elvig concurred. He suggested only freestanding signs be allowed, which would <br />take care of the signs being stapled on fences, trees and utility poles. <br /> <br />iJRA l';xccutive Director Frolik indicated Public Works is willing to pull the illegal signs when <br />they are in the vicinity. The sign ordinance currently prohibits all signs posted on utility poles <br />and in the right-of-way. She indicated Community Development would like a little more time to <br />cxplorc the issue with the real estate signs. <br /> <br />Public Works Director Kapler explained Police Chief Way has indicated if certain things are not <br />entbrced it will start to make enforcement impossible, especially if the City were to get to the <br />point of issuing citations. <br /> <br />'Ibc consensus of the Council was to direct staff to begin enforcement of signs in the right-of- <br />way and on utility poles by picking up the signs and storing them at Public Works. <br /> <br />I IRA l';xccutive Director Frolik indicated staff will bring additional information to the Council in <br />thc future regarding real estate signs. <br /> <br />6) Town Center Community/Fitness Center <br /> <br />City Administrator Norman indicated one of the projects in the core area of the Ramsey Town <br />Center is the cinetna. A gentleman from Ramsey that sells films to the theaters recommended the <br />Mucller family. Mr. Mueller is out of town for two weeks. Another project is the <br />community/fitness center. A local fitness center, HealthQuest, has indicated an interest in <br />participating with the project. There were conversations with Lifetime Fitness in the past, but he <br />has learned that Lifetime Fitness is not very flexible in the design of the building. Golds Gym <br />l~as also expressed interest in this project. Staff would like permission to work with an architect <br />that specializes in community/fitness centers to prepare a cost estimate of the project as to <br />provide assistance for the negotiations with participants. <br /> <br />Councihnember Cook stated the community center should offer education and cultural <br />opportunities in addition to the athletic facilities. <br /> <br />Mayor Gmnec noted the City has a book with research information obtained during the previous <br />study ora joint community center with the cities of Andover and Anoka. <br /> <br />City Administrator Norman noted this information would require a great deal of updating. He <br />asked if the direction would be to work with the architectural group utilized in the past study, or <br />to work with an architect that specializes in community/fitness centers. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec replied the first thing should be to review the past study. <br /> <br />City Council Work Session/March 29, 2005 <br /> Page 7 of 8 <br /> <br /> <br />
