Title Adopt Resolution #20-182 Authorizing Alternative Materials for Seating Walls Adjacent to The Sapphire Apartments Purpose/Background: The City has received a request by the developer of The Sapphire Apartments, located at the southeastern corner of the intersection of Center Street and Ramsey Parkway (the "Subject Property"), to utilize an alternative material for constructing the required seating walls. As part of the original approvals for The Sapphire, the seating walls were to consist of materials similar to the seating walls adjacent to both Casey's and Allina Clinic. However, the developer has proposed utilizing an alternative material (see attachment) to construct the seating walls. The Subject Property is quite a ways from the other two seating walls and so maintaining consistent materials doesn't seem as critical. The materials should still blend well with the exterior finish of The Sapphire building and provide a nice compliment to the building. Staff did review this request with the Development Review Committee and there were no objections. Notification: No notification is required for this request. Observations/Alternatives: Alternatives: Alternative 1: Adopt Resolution #20-182 Authorizing Alternative Materials for Seating Walls adjacent to the Sapphire Apartment project. Alternative 2: Do not adopt Resolution #20-182 Authorizing Alternative Materials for Seating Walls adjacent to the Sapphire Apartment project. This alternative would result in the developer being required to install the seating walls as were originally approved by the City. Funding Source: This request is being handled as part of staffs standard duties. Recommendation: Staff is not opposed to the adoption of Resolution #20-182 approving the use of alternative materials for the seating wall adjacent to The Sapphire. Action: Motion to adopt Resolution #20-182 approving the use of alternative materials for the seating wall adjacent to The Sapphire. Attachments
