CC Regular Session 7.2. <br />Meeting Date: 06/09/2020 <br />By: Mark Riverblood, Engineering/Public <br />Works <br />Information <br />Title: <br />Adopt Resolution #20-121 Amending Ramsey Central Park's Name <br />Purpose/Background: <br />Considerable discussion has occurred over the years, relative to naming public facilities culminating in the Park <br />and Recreation Commission recommending a formal naming policy to City Council at their regular February <br />Commission meeting in 2020. That policy is reflected within Resolution #20-120 and is included as a consent item <br />within this meeting's agenda. <br />Notification: <br />The topic of renaming for Central Park was discussed by City Council at work session in 2019, and also by the <br />Park & Recreation Commission in 2020. <br />Observations/Alternatives: <br />The specific purpose of this case, and consideration of Resolution #20-121 is the proposal by Ramsey resident Ron <br />Schara to rename Central Park to honor and recognize long-time resident and Nationally renown, Loral I Armstrong <br />Delaney. Mr. Schara will address the Council on the rationale and value of revising the park's name. <br />Funding Source: <br />Primary costs for revising the existing monument is believed to be between $3,000 to $5,000 including installation. <br />The funding source may be either private donation, or the Park Trust Fund (or a combination of private and public <br />funding sources). <br />Recommendation: <br />The Park & Recreation Commission, together with Staff supports the amended name for Ramsey's 36 year -old park. <br />Action: <br />Motion to Adopt Resolution #20-121, amending the name of the existing Central Park to be known as Loral I <br />Armstrong Delaney Central Park. <br />Attachments <br />Profile of Loral I <br />Resolution #20-121 <br />Existing Monument <br />Draft mock up <br />Location Exhibit <br />
