CITY COUNCIL <br />CITY OF RAMSEY <br />ANOKA COUNTY <br />STATE OF MINNESOTA <br /> <br />The Ramsey City Council conducted a regular meeting on Tuesday, January 23, 2001, at the <br />Ramsey Municipal Center, 15153 Nowthen Boulevard NW, Ramsey, Minnesota. <br /> <br />Members Present: <br /> <br />Mayor Thomas Gamec <br />Councilmember Susan E. Anderson <br />Councilmember Terry Hendriksen <br />Councilmember Patti Kurak <br />Councilmember Gerald Zimmerman <br /> <br />Also Present: <br /> <br />City Administrator James E. Norman <br />Director of Public Works/Fire Chief Dean Kapler <br />Community Development Director Sylvia Frolik <br />City Engineer Steve Jankowski <br />Police Chief David Gustafson <br />City Attorney William Goodrich <br /> <br />CALL TO ORDER <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec called the regular meeting of the City Council to order at 7:05 p.m. and called <br />upon Councihnember Kurak to lead in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. <br /> <br />CITIZEN INPUT <br /> <br />Jeffery Menth, 14726 Ramsey Boulevard NW, Ramsey, stated that he had been appointed as <br />Chairman of a group of citizens initiating an Amendment to the Ramsey City Charter. He <br />explained that they have gathered enough signatures from residents to require a special election <br />such that the City of Ramsey can vote on the Charter Amendment. <br /> <br />Steve Simonson, 5155 - 156"' Avenue NW, Ramsey, presented the Council with a petition calling <br />for a special election to amend Chapter 5 of the City's Charter relating to Initiative, Referendum <br />and Recall. He stated that the residents feel that this is their only option and encouraged all <br />residents to participate in their efforts. <br /> <br />Sandy Bertzyk, 6001 - 146th Avenue NW, Ramsey, stated that she was concerned about the <br />petition dealing with the special election. She stated that special elections do not seem to get a <br />real representation of people's views.
