Citizen Input

Mayor Gamec noted that letters were received from The Links at Northfork, and Allina Medical
Clinic opposing the street name change.

Lowell Vassuer, 153rd Avenue NW, Ramsey, stated that he does not have a problem with the
proposed name change, but does have a problem with the cost that residents and businesses will
have to incur because of the name change. He suggested having street signage which indicated
the street with both 153rd Avenue and Alpine Drive NW so that people do not have to change
their addresses.

Rick Christensen, 7330 155th Avenue NW, Ramsey, stated that he is opposed to the proposed
street name change. He recommended changing only a portion of the street where it would not
impact people's addresses. The residents have been there for many years and have not had a
problem with people getting lost.

Dennis Peck, North Fork, Inc., stated that they have had various discussions with the Council in
regards to the naming of streets and have received mixed results. He expressed that North Fork,
Inc. does oppose the proposed street name change because they have permanent signs, a web site,
and several other types of advertising all using 153rd Avenue. In the beginning they had a
difficult time getting people to come out to Ramsey and now they have created a presence and
would like to keep their address 15Yd. Mr. Peck stated that he understands that the name Alpine
Drive came fi'om participation of citizens, but he does not feel that the name has any historical
connection with the City. He does not understand why the City would want to spend money on
changing a street name to something that glorifies the landfill. He recommended using the name
Itasca because of the historical connection the name has with the City.

David Wood, 5242 - 15T~ Avenue NW, Ramsey, stated that he was opposed to having his
address changed and agreed that Alpine Drive references the landfill.

Motion by Councilmember Zimmerman, seconded by Councilmember Kurak, to close the public
hearing.

Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Gamec, Councilmembers Zimmerman, Kurak, Anderson,
and Hendriksen. Voting No: None.

The public hearing closed at 7:24 p.m.

Council Business

Mayor Gamec called the regular City Council meeting back to order at 7:24 p.m.

Councihnember Kurak inquired as to what the problem would be with changing the entire street
name to 153~ Avenue.

City Council/February 13, 2001
