Meeting Date: 09/22/2020 By: Colleen Lasher, Administrative Services Information Title Adopt Resolution #20-216 Back -filling a Vacant Regular Part-time Building Maintenance Worker Position Purpose/Background: This recruitment was necessary to backfill a recent vacancy that occurred in building maintenance. The former employee in this position, Mr. Jeff Strelow, recently submitted a letter of retirement. As a result of some uncertainty with regard to the timing of Mr. Strelow's departure, the City Council approved rehiring a temporary building maintenance employee, Mr. Erick Benson, who had worked for the City earlier in the year. Staff conducted an internal recruitment for a part-time, regular, twenty five (25) hours per week building maintenance worker. Mr. Erick Benson applied and for the part-time regular position. Staff has completed the necessary background checks and is recommending that Mr. Erick Benson be hired as a regular part-time Building Maintenance Worker. As a part-time regular City employee, Mr. Benson will be subject to the AFSCME union contract, including six-month probationary period. The job description is attached. Funding Source: The funding required for this position is included in the 2020 budget. Recommendation: Staff recommends adopting resolution #20-216 to hire Erick Benson, as a regular part-time Building Maintenance Worker, effective on or near September 23, 2020 at $19.25 per hour.
