September 2, 2020
To: Park and Recreation Commission,
I respectfully request to be included on the agenda for September 10, 2020 to apprise the
Commission of the Bluebird Recovery Program's progress. This Program and the proposed
seminar was initially introduced last March. At that meeting, I offered to host a seminar on
Bluebirds. The purpose of the seminar was to introduce the Bluebird Recovery Program's mission
"to encourage, inspire, educate and assist individuals and organizations to become actively
involved in the restoration and preservation efforts to sustain a healthy and expanding population
of Bluebirds and native cavity nesters." This seminar was also intended to inspire like-minded
citizens in Ramsey to join in learning about the Blue Bird, it's habitat and the need to refurbish
and establish nesting sites here in Ramsey. During the coming Commission meeting at Pearson
Park, I will report on what has been done over the past few months to pursue this mission. Topics
covered will include:
Seminar results
Placement of nesting boxes along Alpine between Armstrong and Variolite
Citizen Volunteers David and Micky MeKosch
15 new nesting boxes
Identifying sites at Rivers' Bend Park
Installation of nesting boxes yet this fall
Donation and installation of 2 nesting boxes at Pearson Park
Respectfully Submitted,
Carlyn Erion
Minnesota Master Naturalist Educator
