Comprehensive Plan
Over the last thirty years, Elk River has seen considerable growth in Elk Rivet;Minnesota
both its population and in its property valuations. Enhanced access to
the northern metro will continue to make Elk River a desirable place to City of Elk River
live. Such growth, however, also has the potential to erode some of the
qualities,such as the rural landscape,that Elk River's citizens value.Other
significant issues regarding transportation changes, extension of water
and sewer service and potential redevelopment opportunities prompted -4
the City to revisit its 1995 Comprehensive Plan.
The 2003 Comprehensive Plan developed by HKGi addresses the issues .. s ,,
facing Elk River in a number of different ways, most notably with a , , I1c
modified set of land use categories and land use map.New or strengthened
categories will help Elk River maintain some of its rural landscape while -
also renewing the focus on enhancing Elk River's OldTown area.A Mining
category will help the City guide the gradual redevelopment of mining
land in north central Elk River over the next twentyyears.
Public inpUfearlyin the planning process suggested'that ru2/and
undeveloped land is an important contributor to the quality of life/nElk
River and should be preserved where possible
l`l
e
s
'd
ary
" / I1":
4 z ' ' a I...p
sil . .
ormervii wh. r ,
ti R r Alooli, %I ill ga
' '° Creenwaycomdors are one method usedinth.eComp.rehensive Plan to
4it .! limgey,s help maintain Elk Riversenvimnment
''. 464 b
LSfl .e.m. },.
k`ii,li
4-4444.i a..« ®..„,.... ,
4,emu ..,n.,.
