Chairperson Nixt asked what the range was for a paintbalI gun, and if it would be possible to <br />c. jcct them over a 20-foot fence. <br /> <br /> I~lednarczyk stated the range is about 150 feet. He indicated there will be paintballs that <br />leave the playing area, but because of the arc they would drop off immediately if they made it <br /> the iimcc. <br /> <br />Chairperson N ixt asked the material of the paintballs. <br /> <br />Mr. Bcdnarczyk indicated they are gelatin caps with polyethelane glycal. He stated he did a lot of <br />reseat'ch bctbre he opened, and the paintballs are actually a pharmaceutical material, and not <br />hazardous, lie indicated they are water soluble and will biodegrade. He added they have <br />cc)ntcst:; at tournaments to decide who can eat the most paintballs, which shows they are not <br />hazardous. <br /> <br />Commissioner Johnson noted this is for an Interim Use Permit, and asked what interim means in <br /> <br />c',on~munity I)evelopment Director Trudgeon stated a business can have an Interim Use Permit <br />fbr up to five years. I% indicated when this applicant first came through Staff thought an Interim <br />Usc Permit may be the best way to go so the Paintball Arena could try it, but after looking at the <br />~4ile StalT docs not think it is appropriate for this area. <br /> <br />(;ommissioner Van Scoy asked what locations in the city would allow this use. <br /> <br />(iommunity Development Director Trudgeon indicated it would be allowed in B-2 and H-l,' <br />which a~'e maybe not the best areas, but are the only locations where outdoor recreation is <br />altowcd. <br /> <br />(_'~m:~ m issioner Johnson asked why Staff felt it was not appropriate in this location. <br /> <br />Community Development Director Trudgeon stated this area has been redeveloping, and <br />:-.:igniI~cant TIF has been put into the area, along with roads and sewer and water. He indicated <br />Staler would hate to possibly detract from that with telephone poles. He added there is a potential <br />conflict with trucks going in and out and paintballs making it over the fence. <br /> <br />Com~nissioner Levine asked if Staffheard from the other businesses in the area. <br /> <br />C(mnntmity Dcvelop~nent Director Trudgeon indicated they have not received any feedback, <br />negative or positive. <br /> <br />(;(m'~missioner Van Scoy asked how the playing field would be located on the site, and <br />Community Development Director Trudgeon reviewed the site plan.
