Where to Start? <br /> <br />( ---'~nc ~>l; thc primary objectives of the ~vLaster Trail Plan is to guide and promote the future expansion of trails by <br /> )building on a system that is already in place within the City. <br /> <br />With an extensive trail system at hand, what is the best xvay to add to the system while maintaining the best trail system <br />p,,;siblc? In <br />addition to open space, trails should <br />be connected to places of work, <br />shopping, schools, special use parks, <br />athletic facilities, neighborhood parks, <br />natural areas. <br /> <br />5. HOW FAR CAN I GO? <br /> <br />Are the trai/s goineg toprovide shorter "loop" <br />opportunities as mell as connections to other <br />local, regional and state trail and park <br />Jbdh'ties? <br />Users should have opportunities to <br />go on a short walk around the <br />neighborhood as well as have <br />opportunities to move throughout the <br />region. Flexible destinations add to <br />the range of user ~xperiences. <br /> <br />6.WHO ARE THE. TRAIL <br />USERS? <br /> <br />~tre the trails accessible to as man9, users aa' <br />reasonab3'possible? <br />The physical ability of trail users will <br />be as broad as the personalities of <br />the users. While not all trails can <br />physically be constructed to <br />accommodate all users, reasonable <br />efforts must be made to offer the <br />xvidest variety of experiences to the <br />most users possible. <br /> <br />7.WHAT'S SO GREAT ABOUT <br />TRAILS? <br /> <br />Do trails fit i~to our communiO,'s plans? <br />How can trails compete Jbr fi~nding if they <br />are not essential? <br />Citizens and policy makers must find <br />creative ways to use trails for the <br />enhancement of public health, safety <br />and welfare. Trails should <br />complement policy needs and <br />practices instead of competing for <br />funding. <br /> <br />8.DOES IT SERVE FORM & <br />FUNCTION? <br /> <br />lY/hat are some functions trail can serve? <br />For example, is emery, eh9' vehicle access <br />enhanced? <br />Properly constructed trails can <br />provided alternative access to areas <br />as well as serve as fire breaks for <br />controlled or uncontrolled burns. <br /> <br /> <br />
