Jo Thieling

From: Ithompsen [Ithompsen@ga-er. org]
Sent: Wednesday, May 25, 2005 7:29 AM
To: Jo Thieling

Subject: Please forward to all involved in making these decisions!

May 25, 2005

To Whom It May Concern:
My name is Lori Thompsen and I live on Old Co. Rd. 5 in Ramsey.
I just ~bund out at 4pm yesterday that the City Planners are working on a plan to extend Potassium in
order to accommodate the new proposed developments and place a road through my property connecting
to County Rd 5. Our Mayor himself made the suggestion at the last meeting, not even caring that my
house, home and business is located right at the end of-Potassium right now. Extending it would force
my family to move.

I went to the meeting last night, as well as the majority of our concerned neighbors. We were not even
giving the chance to speak our concerns or to hear about the city planners plans. I have not been
contacted by phone, letter, or person about these proposed plans. My husband found out by calling
the city engineer yesterday and asking what was going on. I understand that the matter was tabled for
other reasons to contact neighbors. While I am glad a decision on the developments has not been made
yet, how can the counsel make any decision in the future without hearing the concerns of the people?
~low can the people know what is going on if they can attend a meeting and not hear the detailed
proposals?

My daughter goes to Anoka High School and has 2 more years until she graduates. I do not wish to be
fbrced to move and possibly have to make her change schools! I dare say I would never move within
this county and possibly this state if you take my house!'

I have started my own agricultural business on my property and grow and sell plants at sales, farmers
markets, as well as family, friends, co-workers, etc. I have all the licenses from the State of MN and the
paperwork to ask for a conditional use permit from the City. to sell at my own home. However,. I am not
filing it clue to the cost and the uncertainty of our'future. Even if you do not take my house, I may loose
2 acres or more of the' 6' usable acres we own. We pay taxes on a total of 9.5 acres which includes
several acres of Roadway. (Alpine, Co. Rd 5, and Old Co. Rd. 5) We pay quite a bit in taxes just to fund
your roads. We were never contacted about the sidewalk/bike path placed on our property by the
developers of the town homes across the road and are concerned we will be accessed taxes to pay for
and upkeep that even though we had no knowledge of it. In fact the city engineer in charge of the project
told me he "assumed" it was the developers land, not ours! These acres are extremely important to the
growth and success of my business! Even if I never go retail I need the room to grow. We just invested
in several apple trees and are doing a prairie restoration project which would be destroyed.

This uncertainty has been a nightmare. No one cares about the little people. I f we are in the way, the
developers with all their money and lawyers jest step on us to :~o~rher line their pockets. And The Mayor
of Ramsey and its Counsel,.help, them.,You can table it meeting after meeting until no one bothers to
show up to protest and then:tl4e developer~: will. have~ their way.
How do any of you sleep at night?

5/27/2005
