CC Regular Session 5.18.
Meeting Date: 01/12/2021
By: Katie Schmidt, Administrative Services
Information
Title
Adopt Resolution #21-016 Appointing Election Judges for the Special Election on February 9, 2021
Purpose/Background:
Background: Councilmember Nadine Heinrich, who represented the City in Ward 1, resigned from the Council,
effective July 14, 2020. As a result of the vacancy in the Ward 1 office, and because more than 365 days remain in
the term of the vacated office, pursuant to City Charter requirement, the City Council directed that a special
election be held in Ward 1. The term of this office runs through January 2, 2023. Due to State Statutes dictating
uniform election dates for Special Elections, the first authorized date for a Special Election is Tuesday, February 9,
2021.
Staff is requesting the Council to formally appoint election judges to work both Ward 1 polling locations. A
resolution is attached appointing election judges to serve for the Special Election scheduled for February 9, 2021.
Minnesota State Statute 20413.22 is attached. The statute references the number of election judges that are required
under the law. In this case, the minimum number of judges required is three per polling location. Ramsey will have
two polling locations open for the election. Staff s recommendation at this time is to secure approximately ten
election judges. Staff requests the Council authorize staff to train and hire additional election judges not named
here, should the need arise.
Note: The last day to appoint election judges is Friday, January 15, 2021.
Funding Source:
Monies have been budgeted in the General Fund under Elections for Election expenses and Election Judge pay.
Recommendation:
Staff recommends Council adopt the Resolution appointing Election Judges for the 2021 Special Election.
Action:
Motion to adopt Resolution #21-016 Appointing Election Judges for the Special Election on February 9, 2021.
Resolution #21-016
Statute 204B .22
Attachments
Form Review
Inbox Reviewed By Date
Colleen Lasher Colleen Lasher 01/06/2021 04:59 PM
Kurt Ulrich Kurt Ulrich 01/07/2021 10:29 AM
Form Started By: Katie Schmidt Started On: 12/31/2020 02:34 PM
Final Approval Date: 01/07/2021
