Council Update
Ward 1 Special Election. There is a Special Election that will occur on Tuesday, February 9,
2021 for residents that live in Ward 1. Ward 1 is located (generally) on the northeast side of the
City.
As background, Councilmember Nadine Heinrich, who represented the City in Ward 1, resigned
from the Council, effective July 14, 2020. As a result of the vacancy in the Ward 1 office, and
because more than 365 days remain in the term of the vacated office, pursuant to City Charter
requirement, the City Council directed that a special election be held in Ward 1. The term of this
office runs through January 2, 2023. Due to State Statutes dictating uniform election dates for
Special Elections, the first authorized date for a Special Election is Tuesday, February 9, 2021.
Candidates are listed on the ballot in alphabetic order as follows: Jane Covart and Ryan Heineman.
Ward 1 Voting / Absentee Voting Continues.
