In addition to calculating the segment and intersection crash rates along the corridor, locations <br />with 20 or more crashes occurring in the five-year period from 1996 to 2000 were identified. <br />Areas with 20 or more correctable crashes over a five-year period qualify for funding from the <br />Hazard Elimination Safety (HES) program. Sites that qualify for this program are generally <br />recognized as areas with safety problems. Four areas along County Road 116 had 20 or more <br />crashes. The Dysprosium Street and Thurston Avenue intersection had 21 crashes over the five- <br />year period. This intersection has received HES funding to convert the existing four-way stop <br />into a signalized intersection. Another intersection, although not shown in the table, just east of <br />the TH 47 intersection had 27 crashes over the five-year period.
