<br />The two options for removing manganese from Ramsey's drinking water that have been
<br />evaluated include gravity filters and pressure filters.
<br />The capital cost of the pressure filter treatment plant is slightly less than the gravity filter
<br />treatment plant ($30.3 million versus $31.9 million). However, the life cycle cost of the pressure
<br />filter treatment plant is more than the gravity filter treatment plant ($74.9 million versus $71.4
<br />million). The pressure filter treatment plant has a higher life cycle cost due to the expense of
<br />painting and maintaining the steel filters; whereas concrete gravity filters require very little
<br />maintenance.
<br />In addition to having lower life cycle costs, gravity filters have other advantages over pressure
<br />filters including:
