Voting No: None. 6) Consider Acquisition of Certain Tax Forfeit Lands City Engineer Jankowski stated the City has been notified by Anoka County that a property located in Section 4, just south of the Bums Township line has become available for acquisition as tax forfeit property. A review of this property shows that it is wetland and could serve public use for drainage purposes. The cost of the tax forfeit land would be approximately $200. The recommendation of staff and the Public Works Committee is to recommend to City Council to purchase the tax forfeit land located on the northern boundary of the City adjacent to Bums Township for drainage and utility purposes. Motion by Councitmember Elvig, seconded by Councilmember Jeffrey, to ratify the recommendation of the Public Works Committee for Case No. 6 and to purchase the tax forfeit land located on the northern boundary of the City adjacent to Bums Township for drainage and utility purposes. Consider Placement of Pedestrian Crossing Sign at Potassium Street and Sunwood Drive City Engineer Jankowski explained the City has a sidewalk system that is not universal to all' streets. Along Sunwood Drive between Nowthen Boulevard and Sunfish Lake Boulevard there is only a single location, the intersection with Potassium Street, where the sidewalk system requires the crossing of Sunwood Drive to continue travel along the sidewalkJtrail system. Staff believes this unique feature warrants the posting of a Pedestrian Crossing sign to warn motorists that pedestrians crossing at this location are a more likely event than at other points along this segment of roadway. State taw requires that motorists yield to pedestrians in marked crosswalks and this posting should provide an additional degree of protection to the trail system risers. The cost associated with this signage is approximately $800, which would come from the Public Works signs account. He advised the recommendation of the Public Works Committee was that a Pedestrian Crossing sign be posted at the intersection of Potassium Street and Sunwood Drive. Motion by Councilmember Elvig, seconded by Councilmember Jeffrey, to ratify the recommendation of the Public Works Committee for Case No. 7 and to authorize that a Pedestrian Crossing sign be posted at the intersection of Potassium Street and Sunwood Drive. Further discussion: Councilmember Jeffrey stated a couple of residents asked him why there are not mort crosswalks in the City. It is difficult to cross in locations where the trails cross the county roads. City Engineer Jankowski replied a request needs to be made to the county for crossings on county roads.
