ADMINISTRATION
Communications
iioatiion
March 30, 2021
Contact: Erik Thorson, Communications Director, 763-324-4612, or e-mail:
Erik.Thorson(aco.anoka.mn.us
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
County Board Proclaims April National County Government Month
The Anoka County Board of Commissioners adopted a resolution proclaiming April
National County Government Month at the board's March 23 regular meeting.
This celebration, held each April for the past 30 years, encourages counties to promote the
services and programs they offer by highlighting effective county programs and by raising
awareness and understanding about the role county government plays in people's lives.
During each week of April, Anoka County is going to highlight how each of its services
impact citizens across age groups. Week one will focus on services for children; week two will
show what the county does for teens and young adults; the third week will center on adults and
families; and the final week will draw some attention to the services Anoka County offers to our
seniors. The information on these services will be available on the county website,
anokacounty.us, and on the county's social media channels. Residents are encouraged to visit
these sites to learn more about what Anoka County does for them.
"We're sometimes referred to as 'the invisible layer of government' because the federal,
state and even local governments tend to be more noticeable, but county government provides
services the public uses every day," said Scott Schulte, chair, Anoka County board of
Commissioners. "For example, we construct and maintain county roads, administer and oversee
elections, keep data on all sorts of vital statistics, and recently we've be at the forefront of the
COVID-19 response, providing an array of services to our residents and administering the
COVID-19 vaccines. The services county government provides are expansive, and we're excited
to share some of our work with the public."
-30-
DK:bv
Ilnm" 'tiu0, umiumm vatlimmm* Ft0sca00y Iponsulliml060
Coverall u t t; •u t it at 21100 3121 Ayenua uaute 700 at Anoka., M I"Y 55303 y
t "0ce0 yuyy 32 t,., t y00 at Aux yuyy-32 i y 90
nllt .a uainty.us
ttuu umm tl0ve Act0on t II mtuMu 11 Ilnll,n a trrn0ity II umulpOoya*u,.
