I understand this may have just been a miscommunication, but it seems we had not understood the nature of your invitation. I had been under the impression that we were being invited to give something of a presentation to the Council in a designated slot on the agenda, and so that is what we had prepared. Instead, we found ourselves restricted to 3-minute time slots on equal footing with all other members of the community who had opinions on the anti -mask resolution. To put it simply, we didn't have a dog in the City's mask fight and were only there to speak on the conflation of the Japanese American incarceration experience. Because our invitation to attend was not shared with those in attendance, our presentations were interrupted and our presence was repeatedly challenged throughout the night. I hope that we can continue to be a resource to you as you work to build a more compassionate and understanding community within your city, but please understand that we will decline future invitations to comment during the Citizen Input segment of City Council meetings. As Sally so eloquently put it, "It's difficult to educate people who don't want to listen." I'm happy to discuss further over the phone.
