CASE #

REPORT ON MEETING WITH MALLARD ESTATES TOWNHOME'
ASSOCIATION. REGARDING THE REMOVAL OFTHE ARGON STREET
GATED ACCESS
By: Steven J. Jankowski, City Engineer

Background:

Chief Way and I met with the three member board of the Mallard Estates Townhome
Association on .rune 9th to discuss the issue of removing the gated access across
Argon Street. Our presentation focused on implementing some temporary street
closures and collecting before and after traffic 'counts to determine the extent of the
traffic change. The City would then negotiate with the board to make the traffic
modifications permanent.

We were told that this issue would need to be put .to a .vote of the members, and that
such a proposal would be resoundingly defeated .since the residents feel that any
additional traffic would be considered intolerable. However the board did feel that
that an opportunity for the removal of the. gate did exist provided that the alternative
did not appear to be a throughway. It was suggested that a narrow passage might be
acceptable. It seemed that a sensitive point with the association is that the existing.
gate is not very aesthetic and an alternative that would improve the appearance ofth/s
area could garner acceptance. The City would also add appropriate signage to make it
clear that this was a private road, however care will need to be taken with regards to
the aesthetics of this signage.

At the end of the meeting it was agreed that the City would reSPond with a specific
proposal for remodeling of this access point that the board could present to their
members. Such a proposal should include a visual rendering which would emphasize
the aesthetics of the proposal.

Reco mmen d ation:

Based upon discussion

Reviewed By:
Public Works Director/Fire Chief
Assistant Public Works Director/Principal Engineer
Public Works Street Supervisor
Police Chief

PW: 06/21/05

-38523
