Manganese in Municipal Wells. The City closely monitors its municipal water system for
manganese. Of 375 City water tests since 2019, the City has had a total of 14 tests that exceeded
advisory standards. According to Minnesota Department of Health (MDH), bottle fed infants
should not consume manganese in concentrations greater than 100 parts per billion (ppb). Three
of the City's monthly samples taken in May 2021 tested above MDH's recommended guidelines
at 126, 201 and 234 ppb. To correct these levels, the City is in the planning phase of constructing
a water treatment plant. In the interim, residents are encouraged to use bottled or filtered water to
mix infant formula. Home water treatment units also remove or reduce certain water contaminants
(refrigerator water filter, pour-through pitchers, units that attach to faucet, water softeners, etc.).
Learn more at: www.ci.ramsey.mn.us/745/Manganese-Levels.
City Offers Water Efficiency Rebates!
