CC Work Session 2.2. <br />Meeting Date: 06/22/2021 <br />Information <br />Title: <br />Discuss the Interview Panel and Process for the Deputy City Administrator/Community Development Director <br />Recruitment <br />Purpose/Background: <br />The purpose of this case is to determine the structure of the interviews and hiring process for the Deputy City <br />Administrator/Community Development Director position and to select specific Council representatives, if <br />necessary, based upon the process chosen. <br />This item was reviewed by the City Council at the June 8 work session. It was concluded that the City would <br />conduct an external, open competitive recruitment. Developers and local business interests would not be a part of <br />the panels. <br />Proposed Interview Process <br />All candidates that meet the posted minimum qualifications will be advanced for interviews. <br />The Council may consider the option of reviewing all applications at a work session meeting. If this is the desire of <br />the Council, identifying names of candidates would be redacted to protect the confidentiality of applicants. <br />Meetings of this type can not be closed. <br />First interviews will include (3) Council members, a Planning Commission and Economic Development <br />Commission representative, the City Administrator and (3) Department Heads. Finalists (3-6) candidates will be <br />advanced to the second round of interviews. <br />Second interviews is will include three (3) concurrent interview panels: <br />Panel <br />Participants <br />Community <br />Development <br />Department <br />f Staff Leadership <br />(Team <br />Council <br />i <br />Community Development Staff including division <br />heads of Planning Division, Economic Development <br />Division and Building Inspections Division. <br />City Administrator and Department Heads <br />(Full City Council <br />The City Council will confer with the other panels and advance the finalist for formal Council approval. <br />Note: If four or more Council Members are in attendance the interview will be open to the public. <br />Timeframe: <br />This case is expected to take 10 minutes. <br />Funding Source: <br />
