Regular Planning Commission <br />Meeting Date: 08/26/2021 <br />By: Brian McCann, Community <br />Development <br />Information <br />Title: <br />Consider Setback Requirements for Accessory Structures <br />5.3. <br />Purpose/Background: <br />At the request of the Planning Commission during their regular meeting on July 22, 2021, City Staff have <br />researched surrounding cities' regulations regarding accessory structures within setbacks and drainage and utility <br />easements. <br />Notification: <br />Notification is not required for discussion items. <br />Observations/Alternatives: <br />City Staff have researched other cities' requirements for accessory structures within side and rear yard setbacks, as <br />well as within drainage and utility easements. Generally, most surrounding cities have maintained standards for <br />setbacks, but some do not have a specific section stating they cannot be placed in drainage and utility easements. <br />The attached document shows cities' standards for drainage and utility easements (pg. 1), and setbacks for the side <br />and rear yards in relation to accessory structure placement (pg. 2). <br />Funding Source: <br />City Staff are handling this case as part of their regular duties. <br />Recommendation: <br />Action is not required at this time, as this case is an update only.
