Candidates were interviewed by a panel consisting of
the Fire Chief, both Assistant Fire Chiefs and the Human Resources Manager. At this time staff
is requesting authorization to offer employment to six individuals who would begin employment
Wednesday, July 20, 2005. The six selected individuals, pending satisfactory completion of all
background and medical exams will be named in a resolution that will be presented to the City
Council on July 26, 2005. There are four additional individuals who are eligible for hire pending
satisfactory background checks and medical exams. Should any Fire Fighter positions become
vacant in the next 12 months, staff would like authorization to bring a resolution forward hiring
additional Fire Fighters from the existing eligibility list, rather than conducting another
recruitment.

Councilmember Elvig asked if the Fire Fighters were planned in the budget.

Public Works Director KaPler responded in the affirmative.
