<br />Model Validation
<br />Forecasts were developed using the regional Activity Based Model (ABM). The existing network was
<br />reviewed for accuracy in functional class and number of lanes.
<br />Validation of Existing Model
<br />The model roadway network was updated with current MnDOT Average Annual Daily Traffic
<br />(AADT) data to facilitate the model validation process. Daily traffic volumes were validated based
<br />on the degree to which the model replicates known ground counts. The validation checks are based
<br />on the Federal Highway Administration's Model Validation and Reasonableness Checking Manual. Based
<br />on the Federal Highway Administration guidance, link percent Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE)
<br />gauges this degree of validation. The validation was compared to additional count locations collected
<br />in 2017 by Hennepin County to ensure more recent growth is being reflected in the projected 2040
<br />values. The area where counts were updated is shown in Figure 1.
