What is the Hwy 47(Ferry St)and BNSF railroad crossing project? • • Redesigning the crossing by constructing a bridge to take the highway over or under the train tracks. • Exploring surrounding intersections and conditions that need improvements. How did we get here? In 2016,MnDOT completed a study of safety issues at the crossing of Hwy 47 and BNSF railroad, between Pleasant St.and Garfield St.Win Anoka.With guidance from the community,the study recommended constructing a bridge over the railroad for vehicles,pedestrians,and bicycles. In 2020,the Minnesota Legislature awarded bonding funds that allow this crossing project to move forward into the design phase.The next step is to review the recommendations from the 2016 study.We'll be asking for additional input from Anoka residents,businesses,commuters, stakeholders,and others,so we can understand the current problems,concerns,experiences,and priorities for this crossing and make any necessary updates. According to the U.S.Department of Transportation Railroad Administration,this crossing was deemed one of the highest needs for improvements in the state of Minnesota because of: • Lots of vehicle and train traffic. • Trains traveling as fast as 75 mph. • Major property damages. • Serious injuries and fatalities. What's going to change? • Hwy 47 will go over or under the railroad. • Safety will improve for drivers,pedestrians,bicyclists,and trains. • Drive time will improve.There will be no more waiting for the train.
