6) <br /> <br />Rcport on Mceting with Mallard Estates Townhome Association Regarding the <br />Removal of the Argon Street Gated Access <br /> <br />Assistant Public Works Director Olson indicated on June 9, 2005 Chief Way and City Engineer <br />Jankowski met with the three member board of the Mallard Estates Townhome Association to <br />discuss thc issuc of removing the gated access across Argon Street. After significant discussion, <br />the '['ownhon~e Association suggested a narrow passage and that improvements be made to the <br />appearance of the existing gate area. At the end of this meeting it was agreed that the City would <br />respond with a specific proposal for remodeling of this access point that the board could present <br />to their members. Such a proposal should include a visual rendering which would emphasize the <br />aesthetics of the proposal. Ultimately staff would like to have the ability to hire a landscape <br />architect to complete a visual rendering to bring back to the board. The cost to hire a landscape <br />architect to prepare a drawing to present to the neighborhood would be a minimum of $1,000. <br /> <br />Assistant Public Works Director Olson advised the Committee discussed the following issues <br />associated with this access: <br /> <br />'l'he access being used as an emergency access <br />Whether the access needs to be wide enough for two way traffic, especially with the <br />improvements planned on CR 116 <br />Tying this access in with the closing of 142nd Avenue <br /> <br />Assistant t'ublic Works Director Olson indicated the Committee motioned to table the action to <br />open thc gate at Mallard Ponds until one month after the construction of CR 116 is complete and <br />to clirect staff to continue discussions with the Mallard Ponds Association regarding the potential <br />of landscaping for a roadway that is a minimum of 24 feet in width. <br /> <br />Motion by Councihnember Elvig, seconded by Councilmember Cook, to ratify the <br />recommendation of the Public Works Committee for Case Nos. 3 and 6 and to authorize that the <br />strcct signs be changed as petitioned by the residents on Old County Road 5 and that 911 <br />officials be notified of the change contingent on review by the City Attorney; and to table the <br />action to ()pen the gate at Mallard Ponds until one month after the construction of CR 116 is <br />complctc and to direct staff to continue discussions with the Mallard Ponds Association <br />regarding the potential of landscaping for a roadway that is a minimum of 24 feet in width. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Gamec, Councilmembers Elvig, Cook, Jeffrey, and <br />I'earson. Voting No: None. Absent: Councilmembers Olson and Strommen. <br /> <br />MAYOR, COUNCIL AND STAFF INPUT <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec stated Fire Chief Kapler, Councilmember Pearson, and he met with members of <br />thc Burns Township Board and discussed several things in regard to working together and the <br />fire contract. There is a possibility of a joint effort being worked out.
