CC Regular Session <br />Meeting Date: 11/23/2021 <br />By: Katie Schmidt, Administrative Services <br />Information <br />Title <br />Consider Hiring a Part-time Recreation Specialist Backfilling a Vacant Position <br />5.3. <br />Purpose/Background: <br />The purpose of this case is for the City Council to consider filling the vacant part-time Recreation Specialist <br />position. <br />The City's former Recreation Specialist, Ms. Kayleigh Sonterre, submitted a letter of resignation, effective October <br />19, 2021. As a result, staff conducted a recruitment process to fill the position. Staff interviewed many candidates, <br />including Ms. Marla Martinez, who was selected to advance in the recruitment process. Ms. Martinez completed the <br />necessary pre -employment background checks and staff recommends Ms. Martinez for the twenty hour per week <br />part-time regular position of Recreational Specialist. Ms. Martinez is aware of staffs proposal to increase this <br />position to 29 hours per week later in 2022; Ms. Martinez stated she does have flexibility in her schedule if that <br />were to be the case. Ms. Martinez will be subject to a 6-month probationary period, the City's Personnel Policy and <br />AFSCME union contract. <br />The Recreation Specialist works under the general guidance and direction of the Parks & Assistant Public Works <br />Superintendent. This position facilitates the development and ongoing administration of diverse annual recreational <br />programs serving all ages and demographics. In addition, this position develops programs, organizes content, and <br />engages public and private providers, as well as creates and maintains methods for evaluating offerings for <br />consideration in future programming. <br />Notification: <br />Funding Source: <br />The funding for back -filling this position is included in the 2022 budget. <br />Recommendation: <br />To hire Ms. Marla Martinez as a part-time Recreation Specialist, effective on or near January 11, 2022, working <br />twenty hours per week at $23.26 per hour which is step 1 of the 2022 wage scale. <br />Action: <br />Motion to hire Ms. Marla Martinez as a part-time Recreation Specialist, effective on or near January 11, 2022, <br />working twenty hours per week at $23.26 per hour which is step 1 of the 2022 wage scale. <br />Job Description <br />Attachments <br />Form Review <br />
