In the summer, the leaves of trees provide shade that will reduce the amount <br />of air conditioning a house will use. In the winter, deciduous trees allow more sunlight into <br />homes, which can reduce the amount of heating that is needed. Trees that are planted to <br />the south are the least prioritized. Trees that give shade to an air conditioner can increase <br />the efficiency by 10%. Evergreen <br />trees are beneficial to plant in areas that will not shade <br />the home in the winter, but will serve as a windbreak.
