CC Regular Session 5, 8, <br />Meeting Date: 01 / 11 /2022 <br />By: Colleen Lasher, Administrative <br />Services <br />Information <br />Title <br />Reclassifying a Publc Works Maintenance Worker to Lead Streets Maintenance Worker <br />Purpose/Background: <br />The purpose of this case is to ask the City Council to reclassify one current Public Works Maintenance Worker to <br />Lead Streets Maintenance Worker. The Streets Lead Maintenance Worker position has been vacant since January 1, <br />2022 when the former Lead Worker was promoted to Streets Supervisor. The reclassification was included as part <br />of the budgeting discussions and is accounted for in the 2022 budget. This reclassification does not require <br />backfilling with an additonal employee. <br />This reclassification reflects the City's desire to maintain an effective organization. Reclassifying positions, when <br />needed, serves to retain high performing employees and furthers the City's mission to work together to responsibly <br />grow our community, and to provide quality, cost-effective and efficient government services. <br />The primary objectives of this position are to assist in providing work direction to streets maintenance and seasonal <br />workers and to perform the duties of a streets maintenance worker. <br />RESPONSIBILITIES: <br />• Train seasonal workers and serve as a resource person to answer questions and provide assistance <br />• Perform administrative and supervisory activities related to seasonal help <br />• Provide work direction for maintenance workers and make field decisions related to city streets/traffic <br />signs/storm water infrastructure in the absence of the Public Works Superintendent <br />• Work with Human Resources staff to assist with recruitment and hiring seasonal workers <br />• Track on -going public works projects and annual maintenance activities <br />• Install/construct/maintain streets, grounds, and related facilities or equipment <br />• Perform or assign general maintenance activities <br />• Assist with snow removal related activities <br />• Perform a wide range of tasks at the verbal or written direction of the Streets Supervisor or the Public Works <br />Superintendent or his/her designee <br />Notification: <br />As stated, the reclassification listed above were discussed as part of the 2022 budgeting process and have been <br />included in the 2022 City budget. The position does not require back filling to replace the original position. <br />Funding Source: <br />The 2022 funding required for this action has been accounted for in the 2022 budget at approximately $4005 for the <br />reclassification. <br />Recommendation: <br />Staff recommends reclassify Mr. Scott Berscheid, Streets Maintenance Worker, to Streets Lead Worker, at step 3 of <br />the Lead Streets Maintenance Worker wage scale, which is $30.849 per hour, effective January 12, 2022. <br />Action: <br />
