It was noted that this discussion would be tabled to the next meeting.

Commissioner Deemer stated he would like to see another option - such as six wards.

Consensus was that the Charter Commission would meet for their next meeting at 7:00 p.m.,
June 7, 2001.

Mr. Hendriksen stated he is detecting a resistance the Commission has of mixing 2-year and 4-
years Council terms. Seventy-eight percent of the citizens wanted the ability to elect the
majority of Council every two years. Up to the year 2000, the Mayor has been a two-year term.
Maybe you (Commission) should make Council terms four years and go back to two years for
the Mayor's term and maybe that would satisfy the perception that you are changing the mood of
the Council every two years.

Chairperson Vogt commented that the citizens had already voted on the Mayor's term to which
Mr. Hendriksen responded that they could vote on it again.

Staff was directed by the Commission to notify the Commissioners who were not present of
when the next meeting would be and that all the literature be sent to them prior to that meeting.

ADJOURNMENT

Motion by Commissioner Deemer and seconded by Commissioner Childs to adjourn the
meeting.

Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chairperson Vogt, Commissioners Deemer, Childs, Bertzyk,
LaMere, Milless and Swanson. Voting No: None. Absent: Commissioners Ebel and Henke.

The regular meeting of the Charter Commission adjourned at 9:17 p.m.

"~" ~'\ Respectfullyt~/~submit ed ,
~~lty Clerk

Charter Commission - May 24, 2001
