'Ibc consensus of the Council was to direct staff to proceed with amending the distance requirement in thc bow hunting ordinance to 500 feet. Police Chief Way indicated as he was researching this ordinance and read through the historical notes in tim firearms section, he learned in 1973 when the City was still a township and the hunting ordinance was created it was first typed with a distance requirement of 500 yards. This was changed to 500 feet in the historical note. When this was transcribed into type it was typed in as 1,500 feet. The City has been enforcing the 1,500 foot requirement since 1973, although it appears that the intention was 500 feet. He advised staff receives a lot of complaints about people lmnting too close. He recommends changing the ordinance to reflect the 1,500 feet that has been enforced and is depicted in the ordinance but not the historical note. He would like to review this with the City Attorney. If the Council directs staffto make this amendment he would recommend ~naking the amendment when the bow hunting distance requirement is amended, as the requirements are both included in the firearms ordinance. Thc consensus of the Council was to direct staff to amend the firearms section of the hunting (>rdinancc to reflect a distance requirement of 1,500 feet after review by the City Attorney. 4) Metro Transit City Administrator Norman reviewed that the Council previously discussed the eventual expansion of the Metropolitan Transit Taxing District to Ramsey. He met with Jim Barton of the Metropolitan Council and was informed that the City of Ramsey would likely be eligible for different kinds of grant funding and transit service. The down side is that being in the Taxing District does not ensure that the City will have transit service. The City would simply apply to thc Metropolitan Council who decides whether to include the City in the transit service area. The Cily of Lakeville is the most recent city to join this Taxing District. He advised Ramsey could not be included in the Taxing District until next year, due to the legislative restraints of the tax session. Ite advised if the City were to be in the Taxing District they would likely want assurance or an agreement that there would be transit services in the City. Mayor Gamec inquired if the fact that the City is putting legislation together for Northstar buses in tile City would assist in obtaining this transit service. City Administrator Norman replied Northstar is not part of this Taxing District. There was discussion regarding the Minnesota Valley Transit Bus System utilized in the cities of Maple Grove and Burnsville.
