All employees whose positions are covered by this policy are <br /> appointed by - and serve - at the sole discretion of the employer. <br /> 110 Probation <br /> Subject to the provisions of an applicable collective bargaining agreement, every original <br /> appointment and every promotional appointment, is subject to a probationary period of six (6) <br /> months,except for patrol officers, paid-on-call firefighters, and Department Heads who have a <br /> one-year probationary period. During the probationary period a probationary employee may be <br /> terminated at the sole discretion of the City. if terminated during the probationary period, the <br /> employee shall be notified in writing ofthe termination and shall have no right to appeal the <br /> termination. <br /> Employees may use sick and vacation leave during their probationary period at the discretion o <br /> the Department Head. <br /> At the sole discretion of the City Administrator, are employee's probationary period may be <br /> extended for 90 calendar days. Completion of the probationary period or any extended <br /> probationary period is not, and cannot be construed as, a promise of continued employment or <br /> otherwise altering the at-wi l l nature of employment. <br /> 3,11 Supplemental Employment <br /> No city of Ramsey patrol officer shall work as a police officer or beeper of the peace directly for <br /> any establishment in the City or at any special private functions within the City. officers needed at <br /> special functions shall work as city of Ramsey sey employees and shall be paid directly by the City. <br /> The City, in return, will bill the person or entity requesting the officers' presence at the function <br /> from which payment the City will reimburse itself for the officers' services. <br /> 3.12 Performance Evaluations <br /> Performance evaluations are used to assess employee performance in terms of specific job <br /> requirements and provide measures for setting up training and development programs for <br /> improvement and opening communication channels. on the anniversary date of an employee's <br /> current position, or in January if so determined by the Hunan resources Manager, as well as when <br /> an employee is completing their probationary period, a formal performance evaluation may be <br /> completed. if a formal performance evaluation is completed, it will be reviewed with the <br /> employee. <br /> For Department Heads,the City Administrator will make note of any City Council feedback <br /> regarding Department Head performance and summarize the Council's comments when writing the <br /> Department Head's performance evaluation. The City Administrator will review the performance <br /> evaluation with the Department ment Head. The Department Head will have the opportunity to discuss <br /> the performance evaluation with the City Council at a closed City Council meeting if he/she s <br /> chooses. <br /> 151 page <br />
