CC Regular Session 5. 17.
Meeting Date: 03/22/2022
Submitted For: Joe Feriancek, Engineering/Public Works
By: Joe Feriancek, Engineering/Public Works
Information
Title
Adopt Resolution#22-078 Accepting Proposals for Fire Station No.1 Water Service Stub
Purpose/Background:
Purpose:
The purpose of this case is to adopt Resolution#22-078 accepting proposals for Fire Station No.1 Water Service
Stub.
Background:
The 2022—2031 10-Year Capital improvement Plan(CIP)lists extending sanitary sewer and water to Fire Station
No.I in 2022, and adding a sprinkler system in 2023. On January 25,2022 City Council awarded a contract to
North Valley, Inc. for Improvement Proj ect#21-10, Fire Station No.1 Parking Lot Improvements. During the
parking lot improvement design process, it was determined to not include extending water services with the parking
lot improvement project. However, with the proposed Lynwood development, a water service from the NW corner
of the Fire Station property has become a viable option.
This project extends a 6-inch water service into the Fire Station building, and extends the line past the parking lot,to
avoid future excavation of the finished parking lot. The 6-inch service is sufficient for the future sprinkler system,
and other building needs. The CIP will be updated to reflect the shorter future connection required to finish the
water service.
Fire Station No.1 will continue to be served by the existing 2"well and on-site septic system, until such time as the
remaining 100 feet of water service line is finished, and sanitary sewer service is completed. Both of which are
proposed to be extended onto the Fire Station No.1 property as part of the Lynwood development. The first phase of
Lynwood includes the sanitary sewer extension onto the Fire Station property, however, the water service extension
will be performed with a later development phase. If the City were to not wait for the later development phase, the
option still exists to connect to the proposed water service stub from an on-site source located south of the parking
lot.
Proposed Work
•Removal of bituminous pavement, concrete walk, building floor as required.
•Install 90 lineal feet of 6"Ductile Iron Pipe and bends as necessary
•Cap both ends of pipe, marking post installed in green space at end of stub
•Patch concrete floor to match the existing floor
•Backfill excavation, temporary patch parking lot and concrete walk with class 5 aggregate
o Parking lot and concrete walk areas will be finished as part of parking lot improvements
•Restoration of excavation area with minimum 4"topsoil and hydroseed
All work is required to be complete within 20 working days of notice to proceed issued by the City. This will ensure
the water stub installation does not affect the parking lot improvements schedule.
Staff requested proposals from four contractors known to perform this type of work. Proposals were received from
two of the contractors, which are tabulated below.
