CASE # 2

Amoco Demolition
By: Scan M. Sullivan, Economic Development / TIF Specialist

Background:

..',.t the September 7th, 2005 EDA meeting a decision was made to hold a "public" demolition of
~he old Amoco station on Hwy 47. The intention of the public demolition is to promote the
'Z'ommunity Revitalization Program" as well as marketing for the development of city owned
land. Thc tbllowing issues were discussed and the following decisions were made:

77me.' Evening.
Liability: Hard hats would be required onsite.
Funding Mechanism: EDA and TIF funds
Bulldozer to be utilized.
Actual demolition rather than a ceremonial demolition.
Mayor or EDA Chair to speak at the ceremony.
Notification by posting a sign on the property.
No fbod to be supplied.
StalT will contact Bank of the West to obtain permission to utilize their site for those attending.
"Economic Development" sign to be removed from the Martin property and located at the demolition site.

'['his list will serve as the outline of coordinating this demolition activity.

Observations:

Staff has contacted Bank of the West to utilize their parking area for the viewing of the
~lemotition. Staff' has not heard back from the bank as of yet but is certain that they will let the
City use the parking area in some capacity. A "community Revitalization Sign" has been erected
on the site. It was discussed to create sign to be erected on the site stating the demolition time
and date. Staff needs more direction on what the sign will consist of. Due to the timing of the
demolition (Late October, November) Staff suggests that a warm beverage (Coffee, Hot
Chocolate) be served at this event and requests authorization to pay for this out of the EDA
budget. The permitting and quoting process will take no longer than 3 weeks which would put
thc demolition date on October 28th at the earliest. Staff recommendation is to have the EDA
identi t'y at week to hold the demolition, and to direct staff to organize the event using the above-
dclh~cd criteria.

Recommendation:

Staf'f recommends that a public demolition of the Amoco be held to promote the "Community
Revitalization Project" during the week of October 31st.

I~IiA Action:

Discussion

Review Checklist:

Community Development Director

El)A: 1ti.12.05

8
