COUNCIL/COMMISSION TOPICS FOR DISCUSSION <br /> <br />vgha~-i-g~hc-C--ity. This Comprehensive Plan Amendment, which will be due in <br />2008, will be a large undertaking, and the Planning Commission is likely the first important part <br />ot' getting things accomplished. There are a lot of changes and activity in the City, and for the <br />first time there are current residents that are asking for sewer and water. An additional e£fec~ on <br />sewer in the City is that the Coon Rapids pumping station will be eliminated, which will result in <br />a price increase for septic pumping. <br /> <br />l) Review of Previous Steps in Planning Process <br /> <br />Community Developlnent Director Trudgeon indicated the purpose tonight is provide an update <br />el' previous steps the City has taken and to provide findings of what has been determined up to <br />this point in relation to the Comprehensive Plan Amendment. There is also a group of people <br />interested in presenting some of their ideas about the Comprehensive Plan. <br /> <br />Rusty Fcifcld of Hoisington Koegler explained there is no action being requested from the <br />Council or Commission tonight; the purpose tonight is to provide information and receive <br />I'ccdback. Mr. Feifeld advised the City is required by state law to update the Comprehensive <br />Plan by December 31, 2008. He reviewed the following factors that are driving the <br />Con] prchcnsive Plan Amendment: <br /> Towll center <br /> Sanitary sewer system expansion <br /> · l)cvclopment pressures <br /> Preserve/enhance community character and resources <br /> <br />Fei fold reviewed the following previous steps in the planning process: l,and use concepts <br /> ~l'hrcc alternatives distilled into preferred concept <br /> f'rcfcrred concept converted into forecasts of 2030 population and employment <br /> o Preferred Land Use Plan Concept <br /> <br />2) Update on Actions by Metropolitan Council <br /> <br />Mr. I:cifcld reviewed the fbllowing information regarding regional plans: · 2030 develop framework adopted <br /> ° Forecasts updated <br /> · Systmn statements to be mailed this month <br /> · Upcoming workshops <br /> <br />Report on Status of Central Reserve Study <br /> <br />Fei fold reviewed the following information regarding the Central Reserve Study: <br />° }:,xplore options for future redevelopment of this area <br />° integrate findings into Comprehensive Plan <br /> <br />City Council/Planning Commission Joint Work Session / September 12, 2005 <br /> Page 2 of 8 <br /> <br /> <br />
