CC Regular Session 5. 8.
Meeting Date: 05/24/2022
By: Katie Schmidt,Administrative Services
Information
Title:
Authorization to Hire Seasonal Public Works Maintenance Workers
Purpose/Background:
The purpose of this case is to request authorization to hire Seasonal Public Works Maintenance Workers. Annually,
the City employs Seasonal Public Works Maintenance Workers to perform work in the Parks, Streets, and Utilities
Divisions of Public Works. At this time, staff selected seven seasonal candidates to work in the Public Works
Department.
Factors to be Noted
It should be noted that hourly pay within the approved range of$13.00 to $15.00 dollars per hour is based on
previous work experience. Effective dates when a candidate begins employment may vary. Onboarding of seasonal
employees is time sensitive due to high volume of work that needs to be done. Lastly, due to turnover and other
factors, the number of seasonal employees that are presented for hire each season is rarely the number of seasonal
employees that are consecutively actively working; Staff vigilantly monitors the budget to ensure proper funding.
Duties
Seasonal Public Works Maintenance workers provide general maintenance of streets, park grounds, trails, buildings,
and related facilities and equipment through the spring, summer, and possibly fall months. This also includes
mowing and trimming, pruning and planting trees or working on landscape projects, maintaining athletic fields,
picking up trash, street maintenance and utilities maintenance.
Funding Source:
The funding required to fill these positions is included within the approved 2022 budget.
Recommendation:
Staff recommends hiring the following Seasonal Public Works Maintenance Workers effective on or near May 25,
2022: Paiton Kothman at$14.50 per hour; Nathan Hansen at$14.50 per hour; Morghan Kothman at$14.00 per
hour; Dan Kako at$14.00 per hour; Mark Belknap at$14.00 per hour; Brianna Sipe at$14.50 per hour; and
Nathaniel Langner at$14.00 per hour.
Outcome/Action:
Motion to hire the following employees effective on or near May 25, 2022:
Paiton Kothman at$14.50 per hour;Nathan Hansen at$14.50 per hour; Morghan Kothman at$14.00 per hour;
Dan Kako at$14.00 per hour; Mark Belknap at$14.00 per hour; Brianna Sipe at$14.50 per hour; and Nathaniel
Langner at$14.00 per hour.
Attachments
Job Description
Form Review
