FC CASE

STATE MATCHING GRANT FOR TIRE DEFLATORS
By: David Gustafson, Police Chief

Background:

The 2000 adopted General Fund Budget provides $84,000 for the purchase and set-up of three
new Police squad cars. It is intended that a set of tire deflators be purchased for each of these
squads and that three sets of existing deflators be placed in Police vehicles not now equipped
with the devices. The Ford Expedition, the Investigator's car, and the vehicle normally driven by
the Chief would have a set ready for use.

The Police Department applied to the Department of Public Safety for a matching grant in the
amount of $652, which has been approved. While the State does not require a Council approval
to award the funds, staff is asking for Council authorization to enter into the joint powers
agreement and for the City to accept the matching grant.

Committee Action:

Motion to recommend that Council approve the Ramsey Police Department entering into a Joint
Powers Agreement with the Department of Public Safety, authorizing the Police Chief to execute
such agreement and authorizing the acceptance of the matching grant in the amount of $652.

Reviewed by:

Police Chief
Finance Officer
City Attorney

FC: 01/25/00
