FC CASE AUTHORIZATION TO AWARD BID FOR COSTRUCTION OF NEW FIRE STATION By: Dean Kapler, Fire Chief Background: The fire station #2 project was bid out in three sections; General Contractor, Mechanical and Electrical. Bids were opened on February 29 at Ramsey City Hall. Staff from the architectural firm of SEH hosted the bid opening. The Fire Chief will be acting as the Construction Manager to coordinate the efforts of the three sections of work. Also note that part of the contract includes liquidated damages of $500/day for delays beyond 240 days from the start date. SEH recommends the following contractors for each of the three sections of the fire station project: Coutractor Name Area of Bid Bid Amount Ebert Inc. General Contractor $1,177,000 Anderson Mechanical, Inc. Mechanical $212,513 Vander Vegt Electric, Inc. Electrical $128,815 SEH has had experience with the recommended contractors. Funding: Funding will be from the sale of Lease Revenue Bonds sold in December 1999. The cost of approximately $50,000 for additional square footage to accommodate a interim Council chambers may be absorbed in whole or in part by interest accrued by the bond revenues to date. Otherwise an intra fund loan from the Landfill Trust Fund may be considered to cover the additional expense. Staff Recommendation: Staff recommeuds to City Council to award bids to the contractors per the architects recommendations. Committee Action: Recommend to City Council to award bids per the Architectural firm's and staffs recommendation. Couucil Action: Motiou to recommend Council adopt Resolutions 00-03-XXX, 00-03-XXX, and 00-03XX awarding bids pertaining to the construction of fire station #2 as follows: Ebert Inc as General Contractor, Anderson Mechanical for mechanical services and Vander Vegt for electrical services.
