PURCHASE OF BENELLI SHOTGUN
for the Police Department

By: Sgt. Tim Dwyer and Chief Gustafson

Background:

The police department is requesting the purchase of (1) Benelli semi-automatic
shotgun, which would allow each of our primary squads to be equipped with this
tactical weapon. Currently Squad # 309 is operated without a shotgun.

The police department received a quote of $ 800.00 from Elmer Arms Inc for (1)
Police Benelli ShotGun. This price beats that of local Level 111 authorized firearm
dealers. The currently owned shotguns are equipped with tact-lights, a sling,
night sites, and misc. accessories, which are available through the department's
tactical vendors for a total of $350.00.

Funding for the Benelli ShotGun and accessories would come from the Police
Drug Forfeiture Account in the amount of $1,275.00. This includes tax and.
estimated shipping.

Recommendation:

Staff recommends the purchase of a Benelli from Elmer Arms Inc. and
accessories from Botach Tactical and Brownells Inc in the amount of $1,275 to
be funded from the Peace Officers Special Revenue Fund.

Council Action:

Motion to adopt attached resolution #00-11-XXX authorizing the purchase of a
Benelli shotgun from the Peace Officer's Special Revenue Drug Forfeiture Fund
in the amount of $1,275.

Reviewed by:

Police Chief
City Administrator
Finance Officer
