Anoka County SHIP, Connexus Energy Partnership Powers Workplace Wellness — Add 1
Similarly, Anoka County SHIP works to make "the healthy choice, the easy choice," and
serves all county residents through its programs addressing healthy eating, physical activity,
mental health and wellbeing, lactation and breastfeeding support, and commercial -tobacco
cessation. For Anoka County SHIP's Workplace Wellness program, a broad network of for -profits,
not -for -profits, and wish -for -profits are all engaged in making the healthy choice the easy choice
for their employees.
Connexus Energy used SHIP funding in 2011 to purchase four bicycles and helmets. More
than 10 years later, employees are still using the bicycles for rides during lunch breaks and after
work.
In 2022, Connexus and Anoka County SHIP partnered once again to refurbish their
wellness space for employees. The room, which doubles as a reservable lactation/breastfeeding
space, will have positive amenities for those who use them, such as a Bluetooth streaming speaker,
breast pump storage and two comfortable chairs, one of which is a mother's room chair for breast
feeding.
Connexus' wellness committee determined refreshing their wellbeing space was a top
priority. They only had to reach out to Cole Hanson, Anoka County SHIP's workplace wellness
coordinator, to sort out the fine details.
"We try to make things very easy for all of our partners," Hanson said. "We have a very
simple project proposal planning sheet that helps anyone decide how big things should be, how
they'll take care of their new equipment, and how it will help them make healthier decisions at
work."
After completing the proposal and submitting it to the county, it only took a day for a
decision to be made to proceed. Hanson was clear in why this tight timeline is a personal passion.
-more-
