CC Regular Session 5.9. <br />Meeting Date: 09/13/2022 <br />By: Colleen Lasher, Administrative <br />Services <br />Title <br />Information <br />Authorization to Hire a Communications Coordinator <br />Purpose/Background: <br />The purpose of this case is to authorize hiring a Communications Coordinator. <br />As the City Council is aware, the previous Communications and Events Coordinator submitted a letter of <br />resignation. Her last day with the City was June 3, 2022. Staff discussed the Communications role with the City <br />Council. It was discussed that separating the two roles (communications and events) would be a benefit to the City. <br />By consensus, the City Council authorized removing event duties from the position. In addition, the City Council <br />authorized increasing the pay scale to a starting hourly wage of $30.167 per hour rather than $25.859. Based on <br />step 6 of the pay scale (the top of the pay scale) this is a change from $67,228 to $78,433, annually. This increased <br />pay scale is necessary to be competitive in the market and in -line with pay equity. <br />Staff conducted an internal and external recruitment process and interviewed several candidates. Ms. Pat Johnson <br />was selected for the position and passed the City's pre -employment testing. The City extended a contingent job <br />offer which is pending City Council approval. If hired, Ms. Johnson will be subject to a 6-month probationary <br />period, the Personnel Policy and the AFSCME labor agreement. <br />The Communications Coordinator position will promote transparency, build the city brand and increase <br />engagement by maximizing messaging across multiple communication platforms including but not limited to the <br />City's website, Facebook pages, press releases, the Ramsey Resident and other approved methods. <br />Funding Source: <br />The funding for this position is already included in the 2022 budget; the 2023 funding would be included in the <br />annual budget. <br />Recommendation: <br />To hire Ms. Pat Johnson as a fulltime Communications Coordinator effective on or near October 24, 2022, at <br />$30.167 per hour, which is step 1 of the 2022 pay scale. <br />Action: <br />Motion to hire Ms. Pat Johnson as a fulltime Communications Coordinator effective on or near October 24, 2022, <br />at $30.167 per hour, which is step 1 of the 2022 pay scale. <br />No file(s) attached. <br />Attachments <br />Form Review <br />Inbox Reviewed By Date <br />Brian Hagen Brian Hagen 09/07/2022 08:30 PM <br />
