CC Regular Session Meeting Date: 11/07/2022 By: Colleen Lasher, Administrative Services Information Title Authorization to Hire a Police Officer Filling a Current Vacancy in the Patrol Division 5.6. Purpose/Background: The purpose of this case is to request the City Council to hire a Police Officer, backfilling a current Police Officer vacancy that was created when a veteran Police Officer retired. An internal and external recruitment was conducted. Mr. Tyler Lux met the necessary training and experience threshold and was invited to take part in the City's interview process, the physical agility fitness testing, and the "shoot/don't shoot" video scenario activity. Staff selected Mr. Lux as a finalist to be advanced through the background testing. At this time, Chief Katers is recommending Mr. Lux for the position of Police Officer with the City of Ramsey. With the City Council's authorization, Mr. Lux will start as the City's new Police Officer on or near November 28, 2022. Mr. Lux, as with all new Police Officers, will serve a 1-year probationary period and will be subject to the City's Personnel Policy and the LELS Patrol Labor Agreement. Notification: All Police Officers are covered by the LELS - Patrol Labor Agreement. Funding Source: The funding required for this position is included in the 2022 budget and represents a saving over the previous employee in this role. Recommendation: Authorize staff to hire Mr.Tyler Lux as a full-time Police Officer, effective on or near November 28. 2022 at $29.271 per hour which is step 1 of the 2022 wage scale.
