· PC CASE #

CONSIDERATION OF RESOLUTION REAPPOINTING
BOARD AND COMMISSION MEMBERS
By: James E. Norman, City Administrator

Background:

The Ci.ty's policy for appointment of Board and Commission members describes a guide to how
an incumbent Board or Commission member may be reappointed. The policy currently allows
for incumbents to make an application for reappointment and the Personnel Committee will vote
whether or not to make the reapp0intment.

At the November 7 meeting of the Personnel Committee, the Committee decided to hold off on
the reappointments for current Board and Commission members and consider a change, to the
policy that would have all reappointments considered along with the new applicants for the
vacancies. You may also recognize that there was a high number of terms that came due in one
year for the Planning Commission, while other years had a very low number of terms that
expired. The Committee asked that the terms be spread out so that there would not be a high
turnover in any given Board or Commission in a given year.

During a Council work session held on December 5, the Council asked that the Commit-tee
consider following the current policy for incumbent Board and Commission members and to
make their suggestion for changes of the policy after the current appointment or reappointment

process.

Committee Action:

Based upon discussion.

Reviewed by:

City Administrator

PC: 12/13/05

6,

-630-
