CASE # <br /> <br />REPORT FROM PUBLIC WORKS <br /> By: Public Works Staff <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />The Public Works Committee met on Tuesday, November 15, 2005 and discussed the <br />following four cases: · <br /> <br />CITIZEN INPUT <br /> <br />Jim Gronlund, resident, stated he would like to know if there has been a decision made <br />regarding the chevrons in his neighborhood. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec replied a decision was made at the last Public Works Committee meeting <br />to leave the chevrons in. place for a couple of months and review the situation. <br /> <br />Assistant Public Works Director Olson informed Mr. Gronlund that his letter and <br />pictures were distributed at the last Public Works Committee meeting. <br /> <br />Mr. Gronlund reviewed the situation outlined in his letter distributed to Public Works <br />where the van with a flatbed trailer and bobcat was driving too fast and went off the <br />road. He stated this driver lives in the neighborhood and drives the street every day. He <br />stated the chevrons will not impact the people that live in the neighborhood and already <br />know about the curve. The curbing does help to slow some people down. <br /> <br />Acting Chairperson Cook indicated the issue of the chevrons will be reviewed in April or <br />May. <br /> <br />CASE #1 COnsider Skateboard Use pOlicy <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />Staff stated the Ramsey Town Center develoPment Will have sidewalks adjacent to <br />commercial and retail developments as well as public plaza areas. Large expanses of <br />concrete tend to attract skateboarders which can cause safety concerns for other <br />residents. Staff was asked to investigate skateboard policies in other communities with <br />the goal of defining a policy or ordinance on the use of skateboards in the Ramsey Town <br />Center development. <br /> <br />Staff requested skateboard policies from other Cities via email. Cities wkh downtown <br />business districts generally defined areas where skateboard use is prohibited. Most <br />districts are defined by streets; however, there were a couple of Cities that used zoning <br />districts. One City, Andover, does not exclude skateboard use in their ordinance; instead <br /> <br />-632- <br /> <br /> <br />
