Motion by Councilmember Elvig, seconded by Councilmember Cook, to dk. ect staff to work closely with the neighborhood to conduct a smwey regarding the Public Works Committee offer/ng the neighborhood a 50/50 split on paving the road for a more permanent fix, with the neighborhood to forward apetition to the City if they would like to proceed. Further Discussion: City Engineer J'ankowsld questioned if the Committee would like to send out a survey asking the neighborhood if they would be interested in the project at a 100 percerft cost and if they would be interested in the p.roject at a 50 percent cost. Councilmember Cook suggested staff hold a neighborhood meeting to discuss the options. He commented if the property owners are given all the information they will know they are getting some benefit from the City. Assistant Public Works Director Cleon asked if the Committee would like to wait fOr Council ratification pr/or to discussing th/s with the neighborhood. Public Works Director Kapler indicated staff would prefer to have direction from the Council prior to discussing this with the neighborhood. Counciknember Elvig withdrew the mot/on on the floor. Motion by Councilmember Elv~g, seconded by Councilmember Cook, to recorrm2end the City. Council ratify a 50 50/50 split of the cost of paving the current dirt surface of the road segments of 167 Lane, Uranimite Street, 164th Lane, Sapphire Street, and 164th Avenue, with staff to prepare a survey and host a neighborhood meeting after Council ratification. Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chairperson ZLmmerman, Councilmernbers Elvig and Cook. Voting No: None. Case//2: Public Works Campus Layout and Tour Public Works Director Kapler noted the Committee was given a tour of the Public Works Campus at the beginning of the meeting. He asked if the'Committee has any questions.. Chairperson Zimmerman indicated he would suggest the City try to obtain the property ail the way out to Lirn'6~¢ei!s'~e:~, as it. will be needed quickly. Motion by Councilmember Cook, seconded by Councilmember Elvig, to recommend that the City Council approve the City taking control of the current property at the Public Works Campus out to. L!~;p~(~i$-t[~,8tl; Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chairperson Zimrnerman, Councitmembers Cook and Elvig. Voting No: None. Further Discussion: Assistant Public Works Director Olson noted staff is cramped in the current Public Works building with the current staff, and over the next ten years the projection is for an additional Public Works employee every year due to the =o-rowth of the City.. There is an issue of how to have all the employees in the building and still hold a useful management meeting in the Public Works Committee/July 20, 2004 Page ~ of 8
